A poisoned batch of heroin sent 15 people to Camden County hospitals on Tuesday. Twelve of the patients were admitted within the same hour, suggesting that drug dealers had just started distributing the product.
Police wouldn't say much about the poisoned heroin other than its labeled “Magic”, and that it was not laced with fentanyl. Officials don't want to create demand for the dangerous batch.
Sometimes hardcore heroin users seek out product that has caused overdoses. They think it may have simply been too powerful for those users, but might be good for their own use.
Reports note that 14 of the 15 overdose victims came from the suburbs of New Jersey. This is consistent with a recent report that nearly 80% of heroin users started their addictions with prescription pain kilers.
