The Impact Society, a non-profit based in Maryland, held its annual concert fundraiser in Towson, Maryland on Friday, March 21. Sunrise Detox was a platinum sponsor at the event.
The night’s theme was rock-and-roll recovery, and a group known as the Rockers in Recovery Allstar Band had a crowd of nearly 700 people up out of their seats, singing along to the music.
The Rockers in Recovery Allstar Band includes Richie Supra, Saturday Night Live Band Vocalist Christine Ohlman, Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVitto, Kasim Sulton and other famous recovering rock stars.
The Impact Society’s goal is to help organize drug-awareness programs in schools and provide housing for people in recovery. You can see their website here. They also partner with Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), a group that tries to keep teens from driving under the influence of alcohol.
Another sponsor of the event, the Nikki Perlow Foundation, also does good work we’d like to mention. The Foundation was created to honor Nikki Perlow, a 21-year-old who lost her life after a long battle with addiction, and provides financial support to the families of people struggling with addiction and recovery.
Unfortunately, Nikki’s tragic story is far from unique. Teens and young adults are particularly susceptible to the dangers of drug and alcohol addiction, and fast, effective, medical treatment needs to be given as soon as possible. The time to get help for a drug or alcohol problem is early, before the problem spirals out of control.
